Motagua finishes atop Group C, Saprissa exits Central American Cup

SAN JUAN DE TIBÁS, Costa Rica – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup continued with Deportivo Saprissa playing to a scoreless draw against FC Motagua in Group C on Tuesday at Estadio Ricardo Saprissa in San Juan de Tibás, Costa Rica.
Gerson Torres had an early opportunity for the hosts in the 6’, but his attempt inside the box was blocked by Marcelo Santos.
Joseph Mora had an attempt from outside the box in the 39’, but the ball ended at the hands of Luis Ortiz.
John Kleber had a look on frame from long distance in the 50’ but was denied by Saprissa goalkeeper Esteban Alvarado.
Kendall Waston threatened in the 65’ with a header inside the box that was saved by Ortiz.
The two goalkeepers each collected two saves apiece, along with their second clean sheet of the campaign.
The draw was enough for Motagua to seal first place in Group C with eight points and an unbeaten 2-2-0 mark.
Saprissa finishes the campaign in third place with seven points and a 2-1-1 record. As a result, Los Morados exit the 2025 edition as fellow Costa Rican side CS Cartaginés secured second place on goal difference.
