It appears that not everyone is happy with the rebranding that took place at RWDM last week. The side suddenly announced that they would no longer be known as RWDM, but would instead bring the name Daring Brussels back to Belgian football. This has angered plenty of RWDM supporters, with many having not been consulted on the rebrand at all.
Now, it appears that things have got even more tricky for the club. As reported by HLN, the municipality of Molenbeek has also gotten involved. With the removal of the name Molenbeek, the local authorities are considering the move to be a breach of the agreement they have with the club. As a result, they may well move to evict the club from playing at the Edmon Machtens Stadium. The municipality are upset about the way in which the rebrand has been anti the Molenbeek, given that its removal from the name was seen as a means to improve the clubs image. This has been labelled as insulting to the residents of Molenbeek and the fans who affiliate themselves with the club because of their connection to this part of Brussels.
In a press release, the municipal government said ‘If this plan goes ahead, it would mean an unacceptable break with the historical, symbolic and emotional bond that connects this club to our municipality. It also constitutes a direct attack on the honour and reputation of Molenbeek, which this club is contractually obliged to promote’.
John Textor and his Eagle Football Group is now having to fight fires in both Belgium and England, with Nottingham Forest calling into question the ability of Crystal Palace to play in Europe because of multi-club ownership.
