Real Madrid are currently locked in Champions League action against Atalanta in Bergamo as Los Blancos look to make a push for a top 8 place in the league phase and gain the automatic last-16 qualification that comes with it.
Real got off to a good start, as Kylian Mbappé scored the opener in the first ten minutes of the tie, but many Madridistas were left worried after the Frenchman was forced off injured around the half-hour mark.
The exact nature of Mbappé’s injury is unknown, but he was seen clutching his right ankle before he left the field. The fact that the striker could not carry on is not a good sign.
To make matters worse, Real Madrid conceded a penalty in the dying moments of the first half, leading them to go in level at the break after being in the lead for much of the first period.
Rodrygo came on for Mbappé, who is just back from his own struggles with injury, while Vinícius Jr. is in a similar position, exemplifying the Real Madrid’s real struggle this season in managing the fitness of their squad.
Here’s hoping Mbappé’s withdrawal is just a precaution…
