Denis Zakaria's transfer to Al Ahli collapses!
Denis Zakaria / AS Monaco
Denis Zakaria, captain of AS Monaco, will not be leaving the club before the end of the transfer window, despite strong interest from Al-Ahli. The principality club has confirmed he will remain in Monaco and has ruled out any sale during this transfer window.
It's a dramatic twist in the Zakaria saga. Saudi club Al Ahli had put forward an offer of €45 million, including bonuses, to secure the Swiss midfielder's services. After several days of intense negotiations, an agreement appeared to be in place between the two clubs. The Monaco captain was facing a pivotal decision for the future of his career. This move carried significant risks for his ambitions with the national team. The 28-year-old knew such a choice could jeopardize his future selection for the Swiss national side.
Ultimately, talks broke down over contractual and financial details. Despite the Saudis’ initial enthusiasm and a verbal agreement with Monaco, several stumbling blocks prevented the transfer's completion. Both parties failed to overcome the final hurdles before the set deadline.
"Following the numerous reports in the media over recent days, the club wishes to clarify the situation and announce that there will be no departure of its captain Denis Zakaria before the end of the transfer window, despite recent interest from a Saudi club," AS Monaco stated on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, as reported by FootMercato.
