Mols better than Larsson? You’re having a laugh. It’s yet anther example of our pundits dancing to the tune of their employers…

Clyde 1 Superscoreboard has provided plenty of laughs the past few days courtesy of the hysterical and deluded Bears following their penalty shoot out win over Fenerbahce.

But the biggest laugh was provided by one of the station’s pundits in a separate issue.

That pundit would be former Rangers player Ross McCormack who, believe it or not, suggested that former Rangers player Michael Mols would have been a much more accomplished player than Henrik Larsson had he not suffered a serious injury!

McCormack along with former Celtic player and Rangers supporter Scott Allen, were both taking part in a debate regarding the greatest ‘old fi**’ XI of the twenty first century, and the fact that both bizarrely selected seven Ibrox affiliated players in their selection further demonstrates their loyalty to their employers, but it was McCormack that raised the most eyebrows with his deluded take.

Both understandably selected Henrik in the forward position with Dutch forward Mols as his partner, but it was the bizarre opinion of McCormack that caught the attention, and so much so that he shocked his fellow pundit and self confessed Ibrox supporter Allan sitting beside him.

Whether McCormack is just playing along with his employers in their bid to keep a certain fan base on their side or simply gain attention and therefore audience is another matter, but to even play along with such a take is quite simply just as staggering.

McCormack stated that even as a Celtic supporter, most folk won’t agree with him (and he’s right about that!) that Michael Mols if he hadn’t been for a serious cruciate injury would’ve been a much better player than the King of Kings.

Mols whilst being a decent player wasn’t a patch on Henrik. Henrik was 25 and a seasoned club and international with World Cup experience when he arrived at Celtic, whilst Mols was approaching 29 with only a handful of International caps to his name.

Henrik himself don’t forget also suffered a horrendous career threatening injury, but bounced back to be prove himself not just club level, but international level. Mols in the meanwhile struggled to re establish himself at the highest level. I think that tells you all you need to know about the attributes of both players.

Henrik proved himself to be a world class player over his seven years at the club, playing in the UEFA Cup final and starring for Sweden on the international stage at World Cups and Euro championships, before departing at 34 and proving himself at Barcelona. Winning La Liga and the Champions League, then winning the EPL in a short stint at Man United, as well as continuing to do the business on the biggest stage internationally. He was without doubt a better all round player in every single department.

Mols meanwhile disappeared into obscurity in his native Netherlands. I think that tells you what you need to know about the ability of both players. The deluded and bizarre opinion held by McCormack is yet another example of our nations pundits dancing to the tune of their employers and what the mainstream media see as their core audience. No wonder Celtic fan media is so popular!
