FLW’s Lions expert wants to see the 13-goal striker remain at The Den
This article is part of Football League World’s ‘Terrace Talk‘ series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
As interest in Mihailo Ivanovic intensifies across Europe, Millwall find themselves in a familiar but uncomfortable position - fending off suitors for another of their rising stars.
After a breakout 2024/25 campaign that saw the 20 year old Serbian notch 13 goals in 37 Championship appearances, Ivanovic has caught the eye of clubs far beyond The Den.
Serie A outfit Parma have reportedly made an official approach, joining Premier League sides Everton and Wolves in the chase for the £2.8 million signing from Vojvodina.
Following Parma’s reported interest in Ivanovic, Football League World spoke with resident Millwall expert Lucas Ball about what would be a fair asking price for the young forward’s services - or if he should be for sale at all.
“I think that's absolutely it with Ivanovic - unless there’s silly money involved, we need to push back this summer,” Ball told FLW.
“He's formed a really good partnership with Josh Coburn, who we've obviously brought back into the club at the back end of last season, looked capable of leading the line on his own as well, proved a handful for a number of Championship defenders - and a number of experienced Championship defenders at that, as well.
“So he's only someone that's going to get better. Alex Neil’s improved him so much in such a short space of time already that you're excited just to see what else he can do in the coming months across this season.”
Though Ball acknowledged Ivanovic’s excellent 24/25 form, he stopped short of recommending the Lions should offload the striker this summer.
“I think, it's exactly that, even at £15, £20 million, I don't think I'd be particularly keen on selling him this summer because he's that important to what we want to try and do.
“If we really want to try and have a go at the playoffs this year, which I think we're more than than capable of doing - if the rest of the recruitment is at similar level to what we've seen in kind of January and the summer so far - then we've got a real shot this year and a manager with the tactical nous and know-how of how to get a team over the line, on into the playoffs and then also win the playoffs, as he has done in his career previously.
“So yeah, look, unless there's something absolutely ridiculous banded about and bid for Mihailo, then I wouldn't be looking to sell at all this year, which I think is probably the viewpoint that most Millwall fans will take - particularly when we've had some big sales already in the last year or so there's no real pressure I don't think at this point.
“You would expect he will have another decent season. Then if we weren't to get a playoffs or all go up, potentially, then, you know, next summer you could look at cashing in.
“You've got that option, but if not, then you go again and hopefully, obviously, take that next step with the rest of the group.
“So, yeah, we'll see what kind of bids come in, if any, or if it's just kind of surface level of interest at this point, but yeah, it'd be interesting to see.”
For now, there’s no indication that a move is imminent - but there’s little doubt Ivanovic’s name will remain in circulation as the transfer window progresses.
His proven Championship output makes him a logical target for clubs seeking value and potential in the forward market.
Whether Millwall decide to entertain offers this summer - or hold firm in the hope of a promotion push - may ultimately depend on the scale of the bids and the ambitions inside The Den.
With no reported release clause and several years left on his deal, the Lions remain in a strong position - but Ivanovic’s growing profile suggests it’s only a matter of time before serious decisions have to be made.
