Could the Lions be set for a Middle Eastern revolution?

Millwall are reported to be of interest to potential investors from Saudi Arabia, with the move being spearheaded by the chairman of the country's General Entertainment Authority - Turki Alalshikh.

The Lions narrowly missed out on the Championship play-off spots this past campaign, falling just two points short of being involved in the end of season lottery, but big strides were made under Alex Neil after he replaced club icon Neil Harris in The Den dugout.

However, ahead of the summer transfer window opening at the start of June, where Neil will be searching for reinforcements ahead of a tilt at next season's top six, surprising claims have emerged over a potential takeover in South Bermondsey.

Turki Alalshikh reportedly at centre of potential Millwall investment talks

According to a report from the Daily Mail, discussions have taken place between the Millwall hierarchy and Saudi investors - led by Alalshikh - in regards to a potential takeover attempt at The Den.

Millwall have denied that talks have actually happened, but there is seemingly no smoke without fire, and it comes just weeks after ex-Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan revealed that he told Alalshikh that he should invest in an EFL club - name-dropping Sheffield Wednesday as a potential attractive proposition.

Alalshikh has become known worldwide for making huge boxing fights happen, with the likes of Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk all headlining his cards, which are funded by the Saudi government as part of his role as General Entertainment Authority chairman.

The 43-year-old is no stranger to football ownership however - he currently owns Spanish side Almeria, who currently ply their trade in the second tier of their country, and he previously was in charge of Egyptian outfit Pyramids FC.

To add further fuel to the fire, Alalshikh responded to a post Millwall produced on social media platform X on Thursday evening, as well as reposting the club's retained list from days prior onto his Instagram story, where his account boasts 34.1 million followers.

Who owns Millwall FC amid Turki Alalshikh takeover claim

Millwall are owned by a group titled 'Millwall Holdings', with the chairman of that group being James Berylson.

American businessman Berylson took over in tragic circumstances back in 2023, when his father John - who had been the chairman of the Lions since 2007 - passed away in a car accident, leaving his son to take over the reins at The Den.

Millwall have remained on an even keel financially for a number of years, with big sales along the way helping the powers-that-be to invest in the playing squad, but with reports suggesting that Alalshikh's net worth is in the region of $2.8 billion, he and his other investors may be able to produce an offer for the south London outfit that is too good to ignore.
