Milan’s Coppa Italia final against Bologna could offer Kyle Walker a chance to bow out in style, as the club has reportedly already decided not to sign him permanently.

The England international joined the Rossoneri on loan in January, with the deal including a €5m option to buy that Milan could activate to keep the defender in Serie A.

Although many at the club initially believed the 34-year-old’s charisma and experience could have a long-term impact, things didn’t go as expected in several ways.

Walker’s Milan future settled ahead of Coppa Italia final

Walker picked up an elbow injury that sidelined him for a few games, during which young talent Alex Jimenez seized the opportunity to rise through the ranks.

According to Calciomercato.com, these two factors played a key role in Milan’s decision not to trigger the purchase option, meaning the Englishman is set to return to Manchester City at the end of the season.

Jimenez is now being considered a potential first-choice in the role, making it impractical for Milan to commit to an expensive four-year deal worth around €4m per season for Walker.

The City full-back has made 11 Serie A appearances so far.
