Christian Pulisic has been one of the best players for AC Milan this season and since Sergio Conceicao’s arrival, he hasn’t exactly taken a step back. In a recent interview, the winger also praised the manager.
While stars such as Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao have been benched at times this season, Pulisic has been the constant for Milan. Under Paulo Fonseca, he bagged eight goals and six assists while under Conceicao, he has bagged four goals and two assists so far.
Speaking to Sports Illustrated about his tenure at Milan so far, Pulisic was also asked about the appointment of Conceicao and what has changed for the player. He made it clear that the manager has given him a lot of freedom, believing in his abilities.
“It’s tough when you get a new manager [for him] to really put his stamp on things, especially when he comes in the middle of a season. [It can be] really difficult because you’re playing every couple of days.
“I think [he’s] just very, very passionate. You can tell the passion that he has for the game and just his winning mentality. … He really cares and that’s what you need in a coach.
“Getting off to a good start, making me comfortable and just giving me the confidence to be one of the best players and to have that confidence to express myself and to feel a bit freer in my game.
“I’m very free when I’m on the pitch now, and confident. I think that’s one of the best things that you can have as an attacking player, especially in football,” he stated.
Pulisic came off the fence against Hellas Verona last night but wasn’t involved in the winning goal. Either way, it was good to give him some rest ahead of the crucial clash against Feyenoord on Tuesday evening, with a 1-0 deficit to overturn.
