Roma intend to keep Alexis Saelemaekers as they are satisfied with his performances while on loan, but Milan are in a different situation relative to when they let him go. The Giallorossi will have to empty their wallets to sign him permanently, Calciomercato reports.
The two sides touched base in the second half of January. The Rossoneri wouldn’t mind it if Tammy Abraham stayed. However, they don’t want a swap with the winger where they’d have to add some cash consideration. Plus, the striker has rich wages for their standards.
Milan would okay the sale of Saelemaekers, to Roma or other sides, only for €25/30M. Sergio Conceiçao likes the player and would be happy to coach him next season. Only a truly sizeable bid could lead to his outright departure.
The 25-year-old has tallied 4 goals and 4 assists in 19 appearances in the Eternal City. It’s his second consecutive loan spell after he starred for Bologna in 2023/2024.
He shouldn’t have transferred last season, as Samuel Chukwueze’s turnaround quickly proved to be a summer flash in the pan. The Giallorossi needed some depth, but their medium-sized investments in two wing players, Devyne Rensch and Anass Salah-Eddine, might signify that they aren’t too confident about their chances of keeping the Belgian.
He’s been good, but he’d have to be superb to justify splurging that much, and he’s not there at this stage. A trade with Abraham is still the most straightforward solution, with no money in the deal. He’s in a more suitable role after the arrival of Santiago Gimenez, but the Rossoneri can surely find a cheaper backup striker.
