Milan have reportedly opened talks with Real Madrid, who have an option to re-sign Alex Jimenez. The Spaniard has become a regular starter under Sergio Conceiçao, even pushing Kyle Walker to the bench.

Milan want to keep Spanish talent at San Siro long term and ensure Real Madrid won’t activate a €9m clause to re-sign the versatile full-back in the summer.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, the Rossoneri are still working to hire a new sporting director, but have already decided to keep hold of the 19-year-old who is under contract at San Siro until 2028. The agreement includes an agreement to extend for a further campaign.

Milan signed Jimenez from Real Madrid on a permanent €5m deal last summer, but the LaLiga giants have an option to re-buy their academy product for €9m.

According to the report, the Rossoneri have opened preliminary talks with the player’s agent and Real Madrid directors to confirm their desire to keep Jimenez at the club beyond the summer and possibly for the long-term future.

The Spaniard has become a regular starter in recent weeks, as Milan coach Sergio Conceiçao has switched to a 3-4-3 system.

Jimenez has played as a left back and a right wingback with the Rossoneri, even pushing experienced defender Walker on the bench in recent matches.

The English defender, currently on loan from Manchester City, has recently returned to action from an elbow injury, but Conceiçao still started Jimenez in the last four Serie A matches, leaving Walker on the bench twice.

Sky reported in January 2024 that the Real Madrid clause to re-sign Jimenez is valid in 2025 and 2026.
