In the last few weeks, there has been a lot of talk about the future of San Siro and the Giuseppe Meazza stadium. As highlighted by the Milan mayor Beppe Sala, in addition to the stadium deteriorating, there is another key incentive to sell.
The stadium developments have caused a lot of confusion among Milan fans lately, as the Rossoneri are currently working on both San Siro and San Donato. In our latest long read on Substack, we explained everything at great length, so that is well worth a read if you want to understand the situation fully.
As confirmed by the Milan mayor Beppe Sala, via MilanNews, the city council is currently waiting for the project from Milan and Inter. This will be provided before March and then a decision will be made on the sale of the land and stadium.
“We are still waiting for the Inter and Milan project for the new San Siro by March,” he stated.
The mayor also explained another incentive for the council to sell the land, seeing as the La Maura area could now become the subject of a concert project. This would eliminate a lot of the greenery there and could be avoided by moving everything to the new stadium instead.
“Concerts in La Maura? All of this is linked to the construction of the new stadium in San Siro. I hope that the concerts will only be in the new stadium and that La Maura will be freed from shows. We want to keep that area green,” he stated.
