Serie A giants Milan are keeping a close eye on Reda Belahyane, one of the breakout stars of the season’s early stages with Hellas Verona. According to Calciomercato, the 20-year-old has surpassed Genoa’s Morten Frendrup on Geoffrey Moncada’s shortlist heading into the January transfer window.

In addition to Milan, Chelsea and Olympique Marseille have set their sights on the up-and-coming midfielder. However, the Rossoneri are ahead of the queue, with Moncada tracking the youngster’s progress since his previous stint at OGC Nice.

Born in 2004 in Aubervilliers, the Moroccan international with French citizenship has quickly made a name for himself. Unearthed by Verona’s astute sporting director, Sean Sogliano, Belahyane has caught the attention of Milan.

Since Paolo Zanetti’s appointment as Verona manager in the summer, Belahyane has established himself as a senior star at Marc’Antonio Bentegodi. He has tallied 11 Serie A appearances this season, racking up two assists. His rise to prominence hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Milan could open talks with Verona in January to bolster Paulo Fonseca’s midfield options. Youssouf Fofana needs a reliable backup while waiting for Ismael Bennacer’s recovery. Even then, the Algeria international could wave goodbye to Stadio San Siro.

In the meantime, Milan are searching for alternatives. Frendrup was Moncada’s first option, yet he has deemed Genoa’s €15 million asking price excessive. On the other hand, Belahyane would be available at €8-10m, a figure Milan should have no problems matching, especially if they cash in on Bennacer.
