Speaking at a press conference during the 20th edition of the Fondazione Vialli e Mauro Golf Cup in Italy, the former Ballon d’Or winner addressed the persistent rumour for the first time since a March ruling from Switzerland’s extraordinary appeals court.
“No one from Juventus has ever contacted me,” Platini clarified. “I can’t entertain the idea if there haven’t been any talks. I have a good life, and that’s enough for me,” said the former UEFA boss, transcribed by Foot Mercato.
The French legend, who played for Juventus between 1982 and 1987, confirmed that former Juve president Andrea Agnelli had approached him in the past – but the proposal was politely declined. “Agnelli had asked me at the time, but I said no because I had to go back home. I’m obviously honoured that, 40 years later, people still think about me.”
While distancing himself from any involvement in the club’s hierarchy, Platini shared his satisfaction with the Bianconeri’s fourth-place finish in Serie A, which sealed a return to the UEFA Champions League.
“I don’t follow Italian football closely anymore,” he admitted. “It’s hard to watch from France, and since I’m no longer UEFA president, I’m less involved. But I’m happy to see Juve finish fourth – in football, when you can’t win, at least try not to lose. The Champions League is very important for the club.”GFFN | George Boxall
