Leeds United duo Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon recently dropped by a Girls Academy session, to speak with budding footballers about their time in the sport, answer questions and offer important bits of advice.

Held at Leeds Beckett University, the evening tied in with the Under-14s and Under-16s’ strength and conditioning programme, forming part of their training schedule which runs three nights a week, alongside a weekly competitive fixture.

After meeting with the players, club captain Ethan Ampadu was full of praise for the confidence they had shown and remembers being in a similar position growing up.

“We were all once trying to achieve our dreams,” the Wales international explained. “So, in any way we can help them do that, we certainly will. If it is like today’s Q&A, if they have got any questions for us that we can try and give them the correct answers for, that can help and benefit them. We really enjoy doing stuff like that.”

Owen Murray, Director of Performance at the Leeds United Girls’ Academy, told LUTV: “Every Wednesday we are very fortunate to use Leeds Beckett University’s brand-new facilities here. The girls engage in a gym programme and then on the track provisions.

“The gents were so generous with their time. It was really, really great to have them down. The girls had a range of questions for them. You could feel the energy in the room increase when they were able to interact.

“Having the guys here and being able to talk with them is that sort of motivational piece for the players and their confidence to even ask them the questions. So again, it is fantastic that they are here supporting, giving feedback and advice both on and off the field.

“But then for the Foundation to support the young people to be able to have the confidence to interact with high-profile players is fantastic, as well.”

The Leeds United Foundation’s Elite Programme for Girls aims to progress players into the Leeds United Women’s team, working with a number of players that are currently within the England talent pathway. More information can be found HERE.
