AC Milan have several problems that need fixing and with the January mercato around the corner, Pietro Mazzara has spoken about what the club may target.

It is still early doors (ish), but whether Milan’s summer window can be viewed as successful is unlikely. Youssouf Fofana’s arrival is a huge positive, the midfielder has entered the Reijnders category of importance, but whether his addition is enough to distract everyone from other additions is debatable.

The verdict is still out on Alvaro Morata, Tammy Abraham, Strahinja Pavlovic and Emerson Royal, but so far there has been more questionable than good moments from them, unfortunately.

This leaves the Rossoneri with a job to do in January as Paulo Fonseca’s team sit eighth in Serie A. So with this in mind, Mazzara spoke on Milan News about the potential investments that could be made in January, and it seems the Rossoneri are focusing on one area.

“Nobody likes the current scenario. The players don’t like it, the fans don’t like it, the critics don’t like it. No one can be happy with the position in the standings and the game expressed. We are a long way from the concept of the ‘dominant game’ that Paulo Fonseca wants (or would like), with a team that is far from being as complete as they might have believed in the summer. Interventions will be needed as early as January, especially in midfield.

“The feeling is in the air that the shots could be two, but it will also have to be seen who will be taken because Milan, today, cannot afford bets but need reliable players who will help the team to rise in the rankings to rejoin the Champions League train, fundamental to keep alive a certain economic balance at the budget level.

“The Scudetto of numbers, today but also tomorrow, will only interest managers. The fan, as is evident elsewhere, is not interested in becoming an accountant of his passion. And in order to give enthusiasm, ‘Milan-like’ moves are needed, even on an economic level.

“In the summer, then, the striker question will have to be re-evaluated again because Morata is anything but the 25-goal-a-season bomber that Milan have been missing for some time.”
