Mauricio Pochettino clarifies Chelsea feelings after casting doubt over own future | OneFootball

Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino has admitted he may have spoken with 'too much honesty' after casting his future at the club into doubt.

Pochettino joined the Blues on an initial two-year contract with the option for an additional 12 months, though 90min understands he and the board will carry out a two-way appraisal at the end of the season to decide whether to continue.

Earlier this week, the Argentine insisted he could leave Chelsea if he was not happy with the project and hit back at suggestions only the board would be able to decide upon his future.

In his post-match press conference after Chelsea's 3-2 comeback win at Nottingham Forest on Saturday evening, Pochettino was given the opportunity to provide further clarity to these comments.

"I never said I am not happy. I never said that," he said. "I said maybe I am not happy, maybe I am happy.

"But it's normal, the headline. Sometimes too much honesty when I'm talking but it's not a problem. I have one year more on my contract. Like I said yesterday, I'm thinking always in long term, thinking that it's going to be for life here.

"We are professional, we try to win games. We are trying to make the owners happy and the staff. I am responsible for all of the staff at the training ground in Cobham.

"I try to make the players happy and the fans. That is my job. Easy [laughs]. So easy."

A run of four games unbeaten - three victories plus a draw at Aston Villa in which a last-minute winner was controversially ruled out - has seen Chelsea climb into the Conference League places, sitting seventh on 57 points. They could still end the season in the top six to qualify for the Europa League.
