Matt Targett joins Middlesbrough on loan

Middlesbrough have completed the signing of defender Matt Targett on loan from Newcastle United for the 2025/26 campaign.

Targett initially joined the Magpies from Aston Villa on an initial loan midway through the 2021/22 campaign before that deal was made permanent for £15 million.

The defender has struggled with injuries since then though having featured just 47 times for Newcastle since. Indeed, Targett managed just five games for the first team last season.

The 29-year-old will be looking to get back on track after joining Boro and could be in line for a debut on Saturday against Sheffield United.
