Marseille want to loan £80m disaster signing: why Chelsea aren’t likely to accept

Chelsea still have some important games to play this season, starting tonight with a Conference League semi final against Djurgarden, but the wheels are already turning in the background on some major summer moves.

We know about the big moves we’re chasing to come in – a striker, a centre back and a left winger are apparently top of the list – but who could be heading out?

Chelsea could give up on talented defender after injury hell

Sebatien Vidal on Wesley Fofana to Marseille.

One name that’s come up today for the first time is Wesley Fofana. The central defender has struggled with terrible injury problems since arriving at Stamford Bridge, and there talk from France that the Blues could throw in the towel on hoping to make him the long term rock on which the defence is built.

French journalist Sebastian Vidal claims that the Blues are “open” to a departure for the defender, with Marseille potentially interested, should they qualify for the Champions League and Chelsea be willing to listen to a loan. Only Saudi clubs are apparently considering a straight transfer.

He’s not the first to put this out there as a possibility.

Fofana value so low that Chelsea may as well give him another chance

As much as it might suit Chelsea to move on from the £70m defender whose transfer has been a disaster, we can’t see it happening this summer.

The money has been spent, and right now to sell him would just be to lock in the loss.

There’s not a huge amount to lose by giving him another year to try and get fit. His value isn’t going to get much lower than it is now. He’s a really good player and Enzo Maresca loves him, so while we’re sure the door is more open than it’s ever been to him leaving, we can’t see anyone making an offer that convinces Chelsea in these circumstances.
