If Marcus Rashford does part ways with Manchester United, one of La Liga's elite clubs would be his "dream" destination, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The United academy graduate has suffered through a slump in form over the last 18 months, mustering a combined 11 Premier League goals since the summer of 2023. Despite a promising reaction to the appointment of Ruben Amorim, Rashford has been linked with a shock move away from his boyhood club.

Amorim dropped Rashford and Garnacho ahead of Sunday's Manchester derby, prompting the England international to conduct an explosive interview regarding his future at the club.

Rashford has even openly admitted that he is "ready for a new challenge". According to the latest episode on Fabrizio Romano's YouTube channel, that challenge could take him to La Liga, as the forward's "dream" is "to play in Spain".

Romano insists that there has been "no formal bid" and United are still waiting to engage in any advanced negotiations. Clubs from the Saudi Pro League are thought to be "very attentive" to the situation, but no party has made a concrete offer.

Real Madrid have spent the first half of the season trying and largely failing to find room for both Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe - there seems little reason to add another left winger into the mix. Barcelona's ongoing financial situation makes holding on to their existing players difficult enough, leaving Atletico Madrid as arguably the only viable Spanish destination.

What is seemingly clearer is United's desire to sell their high-earning, under-performing forward. Romano claims that Rashford's poor "training attitude" was behind his absence from Sunday's derby. Amorim touched upon a number of factors when discussing his shock decision at the time, but did his best to quash any transfer speculation on Wednesday.

The Portuguese boss insisted to assembled media that he wants "to help" and "push Rashford to the best levels that he has shown me in the past".
