Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford made his debut for Aston Villa on Sunday, as they beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 to advance to the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Rashford joined Villa on loan just before the close of the January transfer window. He will stay with the Villains until the end of the season having fallen out of favour under Ruben Amorim.

The forward hadn’t featured competitively since United’s Europa League trip to Viktoria Plzen on December 12.

Unai Emery named Rashford among the substitutes for Sunday afternoon’s clash in Villa’s first game since he temporarily signed for them.

Midway through the second half, Rashford was thrust into the action alongside fellow loanee Marco Asensio.

The two came on just moments after Morgan Rogers had doubled Villa’s advantage. Rashford replaced Donyell Malen.

The Carrington academy graduate mostly played on the left side of Villa’s attack, which suggests that’s where Emery will primarily deploy him.

During the 24 minutes he was on the pitch, Rashford completed one of the two dribbles he embarked on. He touched the ball 22 times and found his teammates with 13 of the 14 passes he attempted.

The England international worked hard, seemingly eager to impress and get off to a good start. He won three of the five ground duels he delved into and came out on top in the one aerial challenge he contested.

Rashford also contributed two tackles.

Rashford certainly sent a message with his tenacious and energetic cameo, indicating he is keen to silence his critics and get back to his sensational best.

Villa are back in action on Saturday when they host Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town.
