In a significant coup for the Italian giants, Inter Milan are poised to dramatically strengthen their backline with a strategic move for a Premier League champion. As exclusively revealed by transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, a full agreement is now in place with Manchester City for defender Manuel Akanji.

The Nerazzurri have structured a shrewd deal to bring the 30-year-old Swiss international to the San Siro. The arrangement will see Inter secure Akanji on an initial loan for a €2 million fee, with the club assuming a portion of his wages. Crucially, the agreement includes a pathway to a permanent transfer: a €15 million option that transforms into a mandatory obligation should two key conditions be met—if Akanji features in over half of Inter's Serie A fixtures and the club secures the Scudetto this season.

This move brings Akanji's successful two-year spell at the Etihad to a close. Having arrived from Borussia Dortmund for €20 million in 2022, he became a reliable figure in Pep Guardiola's squad, amassing 136 appearances and contributing to eight goals. Despite a market valuation of €28 million and a contract running until 2027, Inter's cleverly negotiated terms have positioned them to acquire a proven winner at a potentially reduced cost, marking a significant piece of business for the Serie A title contenders.
