Manchester United completed yet another sale this summer window, agreeing a €6 million deal with Panathinaikos for the sale of winger Facundo Pellistri.

The Greek giants were in talks with United for the Uruguayan for sometime now while multiple other clubs were also waiting to hijack the deal should it stall.

Eventually, it was the Greek side’s manager Diego Alonso who played a crucial role in convincing his compatriot to leave Old Trafford for Athens.

While the fee was quite less considering the player’s age and potential and his exploits on the international arena, Giannis Chorianopoulos, Editor of Sportime, has revealed that United have included a massive sell-on clause in the deal.

United agree massive sell-on clause

This means the Red Devils will earn a massive 40-45 percent from the 22-year-old’s sale in the future on top of the €6 million fee.

“Manchester United will have 40-45% sell on clause for Facundo Pellistri after the deal with Panathinaikos,” the journalist wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Pellistri had arrived for €8.5 million back in 2020 but never quite impressed, managing only four starts in four years and being sent out on loan three times.

Erik ten Hag’s side are well-stocked out wide and with Amad Diallo’s emergence and Alejandro Garnacho’s ability to shine on both wings, there was no space for the former Penarol man to shine.

In fact, he was brought on as a substitute against Manchester City in the Community Shield but made to play as an emergency right-back instead of further forward.

Well done INEOS

That was clear indication that the manager did not feel Pellistri was up to the required standards. He has seen him in training as well and when given the nod to start, the winger has always looked raw.

A move to Greece will allow Pellistri to earn regular minutes and he will be looking to impress under a manager who is clearly a fan of his talents.

Hopefully, the Uruguay international can subsequently earn himself a move to another big club, which will allow United to earn a decent profit on his sale.

INEOS have once again done decent business as compared to the incompetent Glazers, who would have simply opted to keep hold in hopes of earning a sizeable fee later on, a move that never succeeded as seen from the eventual exits of Anthony Martial and Phil Jones.
