The Premier League Football Development Panel have nominated two Manchester United players for the December 2024 Premier League 2 Player of the Month award.
They have selected midfielders Daniel Gore and Jack Moorhouse as two of the best performers for the month.
Gore scored once and provided two assists to get nominated. He bagged his three-goal contributions in the 5-1 victory over Southampton U21s, with first-team manager Ruben Amorim in attendance.
He got United’s second goal in the game with a left-footed finish into the bottom corner before assisting the third and fourth goals.
The 20-year-old has been struggling with a shoulder injury this term. He has made four league appearances, registering one goal and three assists.
He made his first-team debut in the Premier League clash with Aston Villa at Old Trafford last season.
Former manager Erik ten Hag named him in the matchday squad for the Europa League clash with Porto last October.
Moorehouse also earned a nomination for his performance against Southampton. His ‘speed, physicality, and close control’ stood out in the game.
He won a penalty, which was not converted by Ethan Wheatley, before getting on the scoresheet with a finish from an acute angle, leaving a smile on Amorim’s face.
The 19-year-old rounded up the scoring with a brilliant finish – he easily drove past Southampton’s midfield, exchanged passes with Ashton Missin and dribbled past his marker to tuck the ball home.
Unlike Gore, he has not officially been involved with the first team.
Brighton & Hove Albion’s Harry Howell, one of the division’s top scorers, and his teammate Cameron Peupion are also in contention for the award.
Blackburn Rovers’ Aodhan Doherty, Fulham defender Jonathan Esenga and Norwich City duo Adian Manning and Daniel Ogwuru are the other nominees.
No United player has won the award this term. Chelsea’s Kiano Dyer, Fulham forward Callum Osmand, Manchester City winger Farid Alfa-Ruprecht and Arsenal striker Nathan Butler-Oyedeji have received the prize this season.
The latest winner will be announced later this week.
