Yoro recovers from foot injury and starts on huge night in Bilbao
Ruben Amorim has opted to start Leny Yoro for Manchester United against Tottenham in the Europa League final tonight.
The United boss has seen his squad further boosted by the return of a previously injured trio on the eve of the final after already welcoming Amad Diallo back to the squad amid earlier fears he would be out for the season.
Joshua Zirkzee, who had also been ruled out through the end of the campaign after injuring his hamstring, was a surprise appearance in team training at Carrington on Tuesday. Given the extended absence, the Dutch forward is on the bench, as Rasmus Hojlund again leads the line.
But Yoro comes straight back into the starting lineup, despite missing Friday’s defeat to Chelsea with the foot injury he sustained earlier this month.
The 19-year-old Frenchman started both legs of United’s semi-final, and Amorim has been bold in the continued absences of Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez. He starts alongside Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire in the back three.
Diogo Dalot, previously a regular under Amorim, has been sidelined with an ankle injury for several weeks. The Portuguese full-back trained this week, but is only fit enough for the bench.
In the middle of the park, the pairing of Manuel Ugarte does not start, with Bruno Fernandes in a deeper role alongside Casemiro.
Alejandro Garnacho has started the majority of United’s matches this season, including every knock-out match en route to Bilbao, but has notably been benched in each of their last two (admittedly meaningless) league fixtures, and he misses out here. Mason Mount has started each of their last three and proved instrumental in sealing their spot in the final, and starts here.
