There was suggestion he would continue his international duty by taking part in the Olympics later in the summer but reports claim he will return to United after the Copa America.

As confirmed by the Manchester Evening News, Garnacho will not take part in the Paris Olympics, with United not receiving a request form the Argentinian FA for him to play.

Under Fifa regulations, players are not mandated to play in two tournaments in one summer.

Previous reports suggested that United were ready to block Garnacho’s participation in the Olympics but now have no need to make the decision, having not received the call-up request.

The winger can now look forward to a well-earned rest after the Copa America and a marathon season with United.

Garancho was the only player, along with Diogo Dalot, to avoid injury for Erik ten Hag’s side, featuring in 50 of the 52 games across the campaign.

The academy graduate also started a remarkable 39 successive games last season, playing on either flank for Ten Hag, who now has full faith in the precocious talent.

Garnacho’s Argentina are the bookies’ favourites for the Copa America and the young man made his debut in the competition on Sunday.

The United man wasn’t at his best but did play more than an hour in the 2-0 win against Peru, which meant Argentina topped the group with maximum points to rubber stamp their position as front runners.

Garnacho will not take take part in United’s pre-season tour of the United States due to his involvement with Argentina, but could be available for the Community Shield against Manchester City on August 10.
