Manchester United are determined to replace Andre Onana with AC Milan star Mike Maignan, as per reports.

Onana continues to leave fans and pundits alike disappointed with his unreliable shot-stopping.

United’s outfield players were caught cold on the break by Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night, as they should have never allowed Anthony Elanga to run through their midfield and take a shot from inside the box.

Still, Onana could have done better to deny the Swede. The United number 1’s positioning was atrocious, allowing the Forest winger to slot the ball into the bottom right corner with a relatively timid shot.

The 29-year-old’s mistake didn’t surprise many, as such weak shot-stopping has become a habit for the error-prone goalkeeper.

Manchester United trying to sign Mike Maignan

According to Fichajes, United are “already working” on strengthening their goalkeeping department and have set their sights on Maignan.

The France international has been a commanding presence between the sticks for Milan for many seasons now. Apart from his excellent shot-stopping skills, Maignan has also impressed with his composure in possession.

It is understood that United consider the Frenchman as their preferred option to replace the underwhelming Onana.

Further, the Spanish outlet claim that the negotiations between the player and United have made significant progress, suggesting that “his arrival in the Premier League could be a matter of time.”

Maignan, 29, will enter the final 12 months of his contract this summer.

However, considering his importance to their project, the Rossoneri are expected to demand a substantial fee to sanction his exit.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the Red Devils are also eyeing Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens, but they face competition from noisy neighbours, Manchester City.
