Manchester United in pole position for Atalanta’s midfield ace Ederson | OneFootball

Manchester United do not have the midfielders to play Ruben Amorim’s brand of high-intensity football which is why changes are in order in the summer.

Kobbie Mainoo could be on his way while Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are too old and do not have the legs to play back-to-back games in the Premier League.

The Portuguese head coach also wants Bruno Fernandes to return to playing as an attacking midfielder while currently, due to lack of options, the club captain is forced to play as a deep-lying playmaker.

There are numerous players on the club’s radar including Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace, Real Sociedad ace Martin Zubimendi and Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney.

Ederson on United’s radar

But Calciomercato have claimed that the Red Devils are set to go all-out to land Ederson of Atalanta, who has impressed one and all with his all-action displays in the Serie A.

Soon after Casemiro’s form started dwindling, plenty of fans and pundits wondered what would have been if the Brazilian had arrived a couple of years earlier. Ederson is the answer with the 25-year-old dubbed “the new Casemiro” due to his skill-sets.

He already has interest from Liverpool and Manchester City but it seems United are ready to win the race by submitting a €60 million offer from the Brazil international in the summer.

Interestingly, Juventus are crazy about the midfield ace and even tried to agree a deal with him in January. But the Bergamo-based outfit stood firm.

They have been trying to agree a new deal with the former Fortaleza star whose current deal ends in 2027. But given the interest from United, Ederson is shying away from contract talks in the hopes of earning a move to the Premier League.

€60 million offer for Ederson

“Atalanta wants to renew Ederson’s contract, which expires in 2027, contacts have been ongoing for several weeks with his agent. No decision has been made by the former Salernitana player who, however, seems tempted by the various sirens that are ringing loudly from the market: the Premier League is a championship that particularly fascinates him.

“Juventus is crazy about Ederson, Giuntoli would do everything in his power to bring him to Turin. In the January market he met with Ederson’s agents to try to get the player to agree to a potential transfer.

“At the moment, however, Manchester United is the club with the best chance of landing the Brazilian: the Red Devils have announced an offer of 60 million to Atalanta. Important figures that could convince the Percassi to give the green light to the sale.”

It must be remembered that INEOS also need to recruit a striker and a wingback and given the new financial reality, it remains to be seen if United can afford such an expensive outlay on a midfielder.
