It has been a forgettable season so far for Manchester United with the team conceding goals galore this term with only two clean sheets arriving in the Premier League since Ruben Amorim came onboard.
With Lisandro Martinez out for the long-term and Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans among those who are set to leave at the end of the season, another defensive revamp seems to be required.
Plenty of names have been mentioned as potential targets but Givemesport have revealed INEOS could look to return for an old favourite of theirs depending on the finances available.
It is no secret that the Red Devils are going through a rough spell PSR-wise and in case Amorim is not presented with a mega war chest in the summer, Jean-Clair Todibo could once again become an option.
United were inches away from signing the Frenchman from INEOS-owned OGC Nice only for UEFA to come in and block the potential deal.
The Red Devils had to retreat and in came West Ham United who secured his signature on a season-long loan with the Hammers having the option to buy him outright next summer.
However, the former Barcelona star has not exactly set the London Stadium alight since his move, managing only eight starts in the Premier League.
There have been murmurs that the 25-year-old could be on the move again come the end of the season with West Ham unlikely to make the move permanent.
Long-term suitors Juventus remain interested as do United and a lot will depend on both INEOS’ finances as well as the club’s European fate ahead of next season.
“One interesting name that might be worth monitoring is Jean-Clair Todibo. Manchester United wanted the ‘exciting’ France international before he made the switch to West Ham United last summer, where his move will become permanent at the end of the season.
“However, his time in London hasn’t been entirely convincing, leading to murmurs that he could become available again.
“Juventus are already keeping tabs on his situation, but if the Red Devils see an opportunity to reignite their interest, they could enter the mix.”
Should OGC Nice and United once again qualify for the same competition, complications could arise again. United could qualify for both the Europa League and Champions League via their cup performance while Nice are third in Ligue 1 and could qualify for the same two events via their league finish.
Given Martinez’s absence, United fans will have hoped for a better defensive solution but ultimately, the club’s PSR situation might be the deciding factor regarding who will be the club’s viable targets.
