Manchester United have been backed to move for Benjamin Sesko following the collapse of the forward’s proposed move to Arsenal.

Arsenal held negotiations with RB Leipzig earlier this summer to discuss a deal for the Slovenian striker.

The Gunners were unable to reach an agreement with Leipzig and have since turned their attention to Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Manchester United have now been backed with capitalising on the situation. Ruben Amorim is determined to sign a centre-forward, having been frustrated with the club’s stance in the market to date.

Amorim had endorsed moves for Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres, as he seeks a goalscorer who can increase the level of his side.

The United board had favoured the signing of Liam Delap, who has since joined Chelsea, despite Amorim’s reservations of his readiness to make an impact.

Sesko could be an ideal solution. The 22-year-old two seasons of experience in a top-five European league, having netted 39 times in 87 games for Leipzig since arriving from Salzburg in 2023.

His athletic capacity will also appeal to Amorim, amid concerns over his team’s physicality last season.

Multiple sources have suggested an approach could materialise. However, Sesko’s price tag could prove problematic. United are currently working on a £70m agreement for Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford and will require sales before funding further business.

Suitors are being sought for Marcus Rashford, Tyrell Malacia, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Jadon Sancho.
