We have seen moments of quality from Manchester City’s January transfer window signings. All four of City’s new signings have shown flashes of what they’re capable of. Omar Marmoush and Nico starred for Pep Guardiola’s side during their 4-nil win over Newcastle. Abdukodir Khusanov has recovered from a shaky debut against Chelsea to become a player who could become key to Manchester City’s future. Vitor Reis impressed during City’s 3-1 win over Plymouth Argyle last weekend. He looks set for a long career at the world champions.

But today’s match against Nottingham Forest is the ideal setting for all four of Manchester City’s new signings to aid their team’s cause. If they do it could set them up for their future at the club. Today’s match is pivotal to City’s efforts to secure Champions League football for next season. A win could see Pep Guardiola’s side leapfrog Nottingham Forest into third on the Premier League table. If one of City’s new signings has a defining impact on today’s match, it could be the moment to spark their Manchester City careers, so to speak.

Nico, Marmoush, Khusanov and Reis are all quality players. They are also signings made for the now and for Manchester City’s future. But today’s match represents the opportunity for any one of them to make an impact in an important game for Manchester City. Those chances won’t be fleeting for any of the four players mentioned. But it is a chance for whichever one to shine when City need them the most. If any one of Nico, Khusanov, Reis or Marmoush do it will show that they can shine when the lights are at their brightest.

Manchester City’s new signings have added something new, but they all have room for improvement, which could aid their cause today at the City Ground.

Speaking ahead of his team’s must-win clash against Nottingham Forest Pep Guardiola spoke about the fact that his new players had added something new to his squad. Guardiola further added that there is room for Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis and Nico to improve. He explained: “The new players bring something. We are nine years [here], so they bring something different of course. They want to be here and are incredibly focused in every training. When you arrive in one place and everything is new, you are incredibly focused and you have a dream to make a good impact, not just on the team but on English football”.

Of course, they are there, and we’ve seen it. Both the minutes they played because Vitor played in a tough game at Orient, because of the pitch and conditions and the opponents, after the first few minutes, they behaved really well. And in the last game against a striker from Plymouth who was so strong and he handled it really well. But still, there a few things, especially on the ball, that they need time to improve and realise.

Manchester City’s new signings have all added something to Pep Guardiola’s squad. We have seen that already. But if they can shine when the lights are the brightest, it will show they have the mettle to succeed at Manchester City. That is the opportunity in front of them today against Nottingham Forest. Based on what we’ve seen from Nico, Reis, Marmoush and Khusanov they are made for such a moment. If they can have one today, it may well set them up for the tougher tasks that will likely lie ahead.
