League One side Peterborough United are reportedly poised to complete the loan signing of one of Manchester City’s highly-rated midfield talents.

That concerns the profile of Mahamadou Susoho, who has recently starred for Manchester City on their pre-season tour of the United States, with a move into senior men’s football long tipped for the Spaniard since last season.

Having already made his senior debut for Manchester City, coming in UEFA Champions League competition in 2023/24, many have viewed Susoho as a next potential emerging name to break into Pep Guardiola’s first-team set-up.

However, following an exemplary pre-season from Nico O’Reilly operating in the defensive midfield ranks alongside Mateo Kovacic in the United States, there is a common belief within the club that a temporary spell away from the Etihad may be most beneficial to Susoho.

As such, that has sparked conversations of a move into the Football League for the teenager this summer, with one report tipping the player with a move to the Weston Homes Stadium for the upcoming campaign.

According to the information of Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Manchester City defensive midfielder Mahamadou Susoho is currently in advanced talks to join League One side Peterborough United on loan this season.

It is pointed out that the 19-year-old Academy graduate remains highly regarded within the corridors of power at Manchester City, and now The Posh are well placed to sign the teenager after new talks in the last hours, providing an opportunity to play regular first-team football.

Links to Susoho come just days after Jacob Wright was linked with an identical switch to the club by the same media outlet, only for such claims to be publicly denied by Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony on social media.

Both names have made senior debuts for the club and present excellent opportunities for future talents to be developed by Manchester City in midfield. However, with the strength of Rodrigo in the position, there is no opening or pathway for consistent game time in the role.

The Spanish international is expected to return to work for the Premier League champions next week, with his international commitments and success at the European Championships leaving him with the freedom as to when to the return to the club following his holidays.
