As Manchester City’s season ended with a disappointing FA Cup final defeat to Manchester United, this summer’s transfer window is now fast approaching. Given the heights the current Manchester City squad has scaled in previous seasons, it does appear to be an important transfer window for the champions. What they do this summer has the potential to shape Manchester City’s future going forward. It will be interesting to see how the club approaches this summer.

After winning four consecutive Premier League titles, this Manchester City squad has been through the trenches. At times throughout this season, fatigue and the mental toll of scaling the mountain so many times appeared to have caught up to Pep Guardiola’s squad. It did appear that yesterday’s FA Cup final was a game too far for the world champions. Tellingly, it may be the final run for this current iteration of Manchester City’s squad. While that may prove not to be the case, if it is how City approaches the transfer window becomes a massive story to watch for.

As much as many of Manchester City’s players have become club legends due to their recent heroics, the time will come when many will depart the club in the not to distant future. Players such as Bernardo Silva, John Stones, Ederson, and Kevin De Bruyne have all been linked with potential moves this summer. Oliver Thomas has looked at who could leave the champions this summer for Sports Mole. While it wouldn’t be expected that all depart if they lose a sizable number of senior players, it makes this summer’s transfer window a massive one for the world champions.

Despite yesterday’s defeat, the 23/24 season was a special campaign for Manchester City.

Replacing experienced players will be no easy task for Manchester City. They will have their own summer transfer plans before they have to face the prospect of losing key players. It becomes especially harder when trying to replace players who become the fabric of the club. But time waits for no one, and this summer looms as a pivotal one for Manchester City.

It does appear that the champions have already begun making moves in the market. Fabrizio Romano has reported that City has completed a deal for Girona’s on loan winger Savio. Transfer reporter Ben Jacobs has also reported that City has made contact with the camp of Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. The pair of Brazilian internationals would add a different dimension to City’s squad. It also appears that they are attempting to get on the front foot this summer.

The upcoming transfer window appears like a big one for Manchester City. Departures may shape what the champions do this summer. But it looks like it will be an important one as they seek to continue their dominance of English football. Each transfer window is important but this one appears especially so for Manchester City.
