Manchester City return to action at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night as they face a visit from fellow UEFA Champions League qualification hopefuls Aston Villa.

In their last match, City earned a hard fought three points at Goodison Park in what was certainly not an attractive win by any stretch of the imagination, but most importantly for the Sky Blues, they got the result emerging 0-2 victors.

Chances were in short supply for both sides throughout, with Everton arguably creating the better opportunities. However, it was not until the 84th minute that the deadlock was broken as Nico O’Reilly produced another vital goal as he expertly finished a Matheus Nunes cross.

The victory was sealed in stoppage time thanks to Mateo Kovačić, who produced an almost-carbon copy of his goal against Crystal Palace, firing an effort into the bottom corner making the score 0-2 and securing a huge win in an intense race for Champions League football.

Manchester City’s opposition on Tuesday night come into the fixture in incredible form with Aston Villa winning 10 of their last 11 in all competitions, currently five unbeaten in the Premier League following a 4-1 win over Newcastle United at the weekend.

In regards to league standings, this game is absolutely instrumental to both sides as they fight to secure a place in the division’s top-five and secure a place in the most prestigious competition in Europe for next season.

Three points would be massive for either team as just one point separates Manchester City in fourth and Aston Villa in seventh, and just two points separate Newcastle United in third – a point above City – and Villa currently below Nottingham Forest only due to goal difference.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of yet another monumental clash in the course of Manchester City’s season at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night!

In their last match, Aston Villa achieved a 2-1 victory at Villa Park as Jhon Durán gave his side the lead 16 minutes in dispatching past Stefan Ortega following a defence-splitting pass to Morgan Rodgers who squared selflessly to the Colombian for an easy finish.
