It was revealed yesterday that perhaps Manchester City aren’t out of the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz. Sacha Tavolieri reported for Sky Sports that City had a verbal agreement with Bayer Leverkusen this summer to sign Wirtz for €100 million. Now it appears to be a waiting game for a definitive decision from Wirtz about where his future lies. But if Wirtz decides that the Etihad isn’t where his future lies, City would need to sign an alternative to the German international.

One player who could be that alternative is RB Leipzig’s Dutch international Xavi Simons. Now, a new report indicates that Manchester City have learned what RB Leipzig would demand to sell Xavi Simons. Based on the new information, it seems that a deal for City to sign Simons wouldn’t cost an exorbitant price in the current transfer market.

RB Leipzig could sell Xavi Simons for £60 million.

Danny Rust and Dean Jones have reported for GIVEMESPORT that RB Leipzig could sell Xavi Simons for £60 million this summer. Furthermore, Rust and Jones report that RB Leipzig are willing to make a big sale this summer. Their failure to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League has forced their hand financially as per Jones’ and Rust’s report. Rust and Jones add that Manchester City view Xavi Simons as an alternative to Florian Wirtz. They may be poised to strike and sign the Dutch international if Wirtz decides not to sign for City this summer. Lastly, Rust and Jones report that City have tracked Xavi Simons over the past 12 months.

Manchester City should consider a move for Xavi Simons.

It is doubtful that Manchester City have all of their eggs in the Florian Wirtz basket. There is no doubt that they will find alternatives to sign in case Wirtz remains in the Bundesliga. One player they should consider signing is Xavi Simons. The reported £60 million price tag may be too good to pass up.

At 22 years of age, Xavi Simons has his best football ahead of him. He is one of the best young playmakers in European football. With his intelligence, movement and technical ability, he’d be a good addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad. Xavi Simons would also fill a sizable void in the current Manchester City squad. But if the £60 million price tag is correct, that does represent good value for such a talented young player who has his best years in front of him. That is typically who City target, so the world champions moving for Xavi Simons wouldn’t be a major surprise.

But it may depend on whether Manchester City sign Florian Wirtz or not. For what it’s worth, I still believe that Wirtz will end up at Bayern Munich. Whether or not that’s this summer or the next one. If that proves to be the case, then a City move for Xavi Simons could be on the cards. For £60 million, it may be a deal too good to pass up for Manchester City.
