Manchester City midfielder James McAtee is set to be offered a new contract at the Etihad Stadium.

The 21-year-old is poised to remain with Pep Guardiola’s squad for the 2024/25 campaign, despite enjoying successive loan spells away from the Etihad Stadium at Bramall Lane with Sheffield United.

McAtee made 30 Premier League appearances for the Blades last season, scoring three goals and registering three assists, alongside three direct goal involvements in two Emirates FA Cup showings.

The midfielder has played in two matches for Manchester City so far this season, and was also heavily involved in the Blues’ pre-season tour of the United States, featuring against the likes of AC Milan, FC Barcelona and Chelsea.

McAtee featured during the Blues’ 4-1 win over Ipswich Town in the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium last weekend, and also started the FA Community Shield win over Manchester United at Wembley Stadium earlier this month.

The 2002-born star has made nine first-team appearances for Manchester City since making his debut against Wycombe Wanderers in the Carabao Cup in September 2021.

Guardiola has publicly discussed his intentions to retain the services of the England Under-21 international for the current campaign, with the Catalan’s commitment to the midfielder also reportedly set to yield a new contract for McAtee.

Sam Lee reports that Etihad bosses are ‘ready’ to offer the 21-year-old a contract extension in east Manchester, after rejecting bids of up to £30 million during the summer transfer window.

Eight clubs have reportedly made approaches regarding the availability of the midfielder, including Premier League trio Leicester, Nottingham Forest and Southampton, according to Jack Gaughan.

Stuttgart, Feyenoord, Lille, Lens and Celtic have also enquired about a loan or permanent deal for McAtee in recent weeks.

Manchester City have agreed two contract extensions during the summer, and are set for crunch talks with fellow midfielder Rodri surrounding a fresh deal.

Guardiola’s future is also set to be addressed imminently, as the Catalan coach is out of contract at the Etihad Stadium in 2025.
