During the latter stages of Manchester City’s 4-nil win over Newcastle at the Etihad yesterday, it appeared that Manchester City had picked up yet another injury issue. Erling Haaland went down clutching his knee. The fact that City’s top-scorer went down in such an innocuous manner did suggest that it could have been a serious injury to one of City’s most important players. But it does now appear that Haaland has avoided picking up an injury. That is a relief for Manchester City ahead of their UEFA Champions League knockout phase play-off second leg clash with Real Madrid.

Speaking after his team’s win Pep Guardiola was asked about the condition of Erling Haaland. Guardiola told the media that Haaland appeared to be his usual self after yesterday’s match. Guardiola also said that the club’s doctors hadn’t informed him that Haaland had sustained an injury. Speaking on Haaland’s condition, he said: “When he was down, everyone was scared, but he got up and was smiling like always. I didn’t speak with him or the doctors. The doctors didn’t come with bad news, so hopefully, he will be fine.”

Manchester City have dealt with injuries all season long. The last thing they needed was for Erling Haaland to go down. But it appears that Haaland has avoided injury. That is welcome news considering just how important he is to Pep Guardiola’s side. City’s number 9 will have a key role to play against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night. He will also have a key role to play in City’s chase for Champions League football.

All indications are that Haaland didn’t sustain an injury yesterday. That is a relief considering how important he is to Manchester City and how many injuries City have dealt with this season.
