Manchester City are exploring a move for Lyon attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki (21), according to The Telegraph. Cherki has confirmed he is likely to leave his formative club this summer. The France international attracts interest from Premier League clubs with Liverpool and Manchester United touted as interested in the versatile midfielder.

Cherki has recorded his best season to date with Lyon. He logged 12 goals and 20 assists with Les Gones this campaign. Lyon are expecting a €40m transfer fee in exchange for Cherki’s services. The outlet understands that Manchester City have joined the race to sign Cherki as Pep Guardiola intends to inject some fresh blood and a new spark of creativity. Kevin De Bruyne already confirmed his exit, whereas doubts surround the future of Jack Grealish at the Etihad Stadium.

The Telegraph adds that Manchester City have pulled out of the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz due to the costs of his signing. In comparison, Cherki would represent a much cheaper alternative. The 21-year-old has been named the best young player in the Europa League this season.
