Manchester City have already completed four signings so far this summer. Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki and Marcus Bettinelli have all joined the club. The signings of the quartet show that Manchester City’s rebuild is continuing at a rate of knots. Now, a new report from David Ornstein and Jordan Campbell for The Athletic indicates that Manchester City are set to win the race to sign Rosenberg and Norwegian wonderkid Sverre Nypan. The young midfielder appears set to be Manchester City’s fifth signing of the summer.

Manchester City are close to reaching an agreement to sign Sverre Nypan from Rosenberg.

David Ornstein and Jordan Campbell have reported for The Athletic that Manchester City are on the verge of completing a deal to sign Sverre Nypan from Rosenberg. Furthermore, The Athletic reports that Nypan has chosen to join Manchester City. Manchester City have beaten competition from Arsenal, Aston Villa and Girona as per the Athletic’s report to sign Nypan. The Athletic further reports that subject to personal terms being agreed between Nypan and City, the deal that will see the young midfielder sign for City will be a record fee for a player from the Norwegian league. Lastly, it is further reported that Nypan is expected to be loaned out by Manchester City for the 25/26 season.

What type of player is Sverre Nypan?

Sverre Nypan is the latest wonderkid to emerge from Norway. Since bursting onto the scene at Rosenberg, he has made 70 first-team appearances. Nypan has scored 14 goals and added 11 assists. Those are impressive numbers for an 18-year-old midfielder. But more than that, Nypan’s technical ability and intelligence jump off the page when watching him play.

Sverre Nypan typically plays as a number eight in midfield. Although he is a versatile player who can also play as a number ten, on a wing, or as a deep-lying playmaker in the number eight role. Sverre Nypan is strong on both feet and has an innate ability to find space on the pitch. Nypan is blessed with pace and strength and he does relish a duel in midfield.

Another strong attribute of Nypan’s play is his wide range of passing. Although, that element of his play is continuing to develop. But the raw passing ability in Nypan’s game is such that he should develop into a fine midfielder. There is also an intelligence to Nypan’s play that shows a maturity that is well beyond his years. All told, Sverre Nypan has all of the necessary technical ability and intelligence to develop into a fine midfielder in time.

The clip below gives a brief glimpse of the quality of Sverre Nypan as a player.

Summary.

Based on David Ornstein and Jordan Campbell’s new report, it seems to be a matter of time before Manchester City complete a deal to sign Sverre Nypan from Rosenberg. The young Norwegian midfielder looks to be one of the top emerging talents in the game. Although it does seem that if and when City complete a deal to sign Nypan he could spend the 25/26 season out on loan. But like Juma Bah, that could be the best move for Nypan to gradually work his way to the Manchester City first-team.
