Manchester City produced a dominant performance in Estoril to claim a 4-0 win over FC Rosengård in the opening match of the World Sevens Football tournament on Wednesday.
Aoba Fujino and Kerolin Nicoli opened the scoring in the first 15-minute half, with the Brazilian completing her brace in the 16th minute before Aemu Oyama completed the rout.
City face Ajax and Bayern Munich on Thursday as they strive to book their place in Friday’s final four.
Manchester City adapted well to this fast-paced format and needed just two minutes to find the opener in the blazing Portuguese heat, with Aoba Fujino picking out the back of the net with a stunning strike from outside the box.
Rosengård, who looked to be struggling with the tempo of the match, were exposed once again just three minutes later when Kerolin Nicoli buried home a corner after Jess Park was denied by the goalkeeper.
City’s goalscoring rout continued in the first minute of the second half when a fine save from Khiara Keating sparked a rapid counterattack, with Kerolin netting her second goal of the game to remove any remaining doubts about the result.
Aemu Oyama bagged a fabulous fourth with five minutes remaining when she shifted past Emilia Pelgander – currently on loan at Rosengård from Leicester City – to pick out the far corner with power and precision.
