Managua FC hosts LD Alajuelense in Group A

MIAMI – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup continues with Managua FC hosting reigning champions LD Alajuelense in Group A on Thursday at Estadio Nacional in Managua, Nicaragua.
Alajuelense will look to get its title defense back on track after its loss against Plaza Amador. The defeat ended a 20-match unbeaten run in the competition for the winners of the 2023 and 2024 editions.
La Liga will be playing its fifth match against Nicaraguan opposition in the history of the
CCAC, all previous meetings being against Real Estelí FC and all in the finals (2W, 2D).
Managua will also look to bounce back in search of its first points after falling 4-1 to Antigua FC. Juan Barrera scored the team’s goal in the match.
Managua has faced Costa Rican clubs six times in its history in Concacaf club tournaments: twice in the Central American Cup (1D, 1L) and four times in the Scotiabank Concacaf League (2D, 2L), with an overall 0-3-3 record.
All-Time series
Managua FC and LD Alajuelense will face each other for the first time in the Concacaf Central American Cup. For Managua FC, this will be their third encounter against a Costa Rican club, after previously facing Deportivo Saprissa (L-2-3, August 6, 2024) and Guanacasteca (D-1-1, August 21, 2024).
LD Alajuelense will be playing their fifth match against Nicaraguan clubs in the history of the Concacaf Central American Cup, all against Real Estelí FC and all in the finals. The first encounter was in the first leg of the 2023 edition final (November 28, 2023) at Estadio Independencia in Estelí (NCA), a 3-0 victory for Alajuelense (goals by Joshua Navarro, Michael Barrantes, and Freddy Góndola). The return leg (December 5, 2023) ended in a 1-1 draw at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela (CRC), with goals from Joel Campbell and Byron Bonilla, securing Alajuelense’s first title in the tournament.
The second encounter was in the 2024 edition final. The first leg (November 27, 2024) ended in a 1-1 draw at Estadio Independencia in Diriamba (NCA) with goals from Delis Vargas and Celso Borges. In the return leg (December 4, 2024), Alajuelense earned a 2-1 victory at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela (CRC) with goals from Larry Angulo and Alberto Toril, while Harold Medina scored for Real Estelí. LD Alajuelense finished as runners-up in the 2024 CCAC.
