The second half of Manchester United's 2-1 win over Brentford on Saturday felt like a turning point for Erik ten Hag.

Ethan Pinnock's first-half header prompted a chorus of 'You're getting sacked in the morning', perhaps even from United's own fans, but a tactical tweak at the break delivered a sensational comeback as Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund were on target.

In what was perhaps the best 45 minutes of United's season so far, here are the players that stood out in 90min's player ratings.

Alejandro Garnacho - 8/10

When United were struggling in the first half, Garnacho was the only outlet in attack. You could see him trying to drag his side into the game, and it was undoubtedly a job well done.

After failing to convert a handful of half-chances in the first half, Garnacho converted the toughest of the bunch with a superb volley at the back post to tie things up and give United some much-needed momentum.

Honourable mentions

Matthijs de Ligt - 7/10

What an absolute rollercoaster of an afternoon it was for Matthijs de Ligt.

The Dutch defender took a nasty blow to the head early on which left him bloodied and bruised. He had to leave the pitch twice to manage the wound, and it was while he was off the field that Brentford took the lead.

Clearly incensed by proceedings, De Ligt came out like a man possessed in the second half, sweeping up perfectly at the back whenever Brentford threatened to regain control.

Casemiro - 7/10

Casemiro looked slow in the first half. Brentford's press was aggressive and energetic, leaving him in the dust at times.

During Erik ten Hag's half-time team talk, United clearly addressed the issues Casemiro was facing as the Brazilian put in an incredibly classy performance after the break, hoovering up loose balls with ease as United controlled the midfield battle.

Jonny Evans - 6/10

Jonny Evans was sensational before the international break, but his performance level dropped here. The veteran defender was caught out repeatedly in the first half as his limited physicality was exposed.

The second half passed without any real moments of note for Evans, who did his job fine. It was fine. Just a fine performance.

With all the pressure on the team at the minute, if your biggest issue is a 6/10 from your fourth-choice centre-back, you can be pretty satisfied.
