Manchester United have been handed a deadline of July 21 to sign Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat on a permanent deal.
Amrabat spent the 2023/24 season on loan with the Red Devils. He had a mixed campaign but managed to impress manager Erik ten Hag during the final weeks.
He returned to La Viola after his loan contract expired on June 30, but United still have an option to buy.
Gazzetta dello Sport (page 19) claims that United have until July 21 to decide on the buy clause.
Amrabat, who is keen on staying in the Premier League, won’t be involved in Fiorentina’s pre-season training until then.
United were reportedly able to sign him for £17-21 million, but the fee is likely to be £13-17m.
Amrabat joined the club last summer with plenty of expectations, but he struggled to cope with the higher intensity of the Premier League.
The Moroccan star was on the bench in the early part of 2024, but he redeemed himself during the final four games.
With an injury crisis at centre-back, Casemiro had to fill the void. This paved the way for Amrabat to partner Kobbie Mainoo in midfield.
Amrabat was impressive in his final three league starts, and he also got the nod over Casemiro in the FA Cup final against Manchester City.
Casemiro was initially named on the bench before he withdrew from the matchday squad with a minor muscle injury during the warm-up.
Amrabat still dreams of returning to Old Trafford, and his wish could come true after the club retained Erik ten Hag as manager.
