Manchester United have until the end of this week to purchase Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat with a buy clause, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

The Morocco international had a disappointing loan season with the Red Devils last term. He made only 30 appearances across all competitions.

Amrabat initially struggled to adapt to the Premier League’s higher intensity. After returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, he lost his starting spot.

Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo were the preferred midfield duo under manager Erik ten Hag until May, when the former had to play in central defence.

It was a blessing in disguise for Amrabat, who was picked to start in the final three games of the league campaign.

His improved performances also saw him picked in the starting XI in the FA Cup final where he produced a solid display in a 2-1 win over Manchester City.

Casemiro was initially on the bench for the Wembley Stadium showdown, but he pulled out of the squad after picking up a muscle injury during the warm-up.

Amrabat’s loan deal has since expired but the £17 million buy clause in his contract can be triggered until July 21.

The ‘world-class‘ star is open to rejoining United after United’s decision to continue with Ten Hag, but the club are yet to make a final decision on the clause.

Amrabat is currently not training with Fiorentina and waiting for the Red Devils’ verdict.

Amrabat deal looks unlikely amid Ugarte interest

United have been ambitious in the early part of the transfer window. They have already signed Joshua Zirkzee while Leny Yoro is about to sign a long-term deal.

The club are likely to focus on a marquee defensive midfielder after Yoro. Amrabat is keen on a reunion, but the hierarchy could give priority to signing Ugarte.

The Uruguayan is a specialist number six who has excelled with his distribution, tackling and duel-winning ability. He is also blessed with terrific recovery speed.

The 23-year-old could be a brilliant signing for the long term as he is just entering his prime. However, a deal may partly depend on funds recouped from sales.

United are likely to ignore the clause for Amrabat. If they are unable to secure Ugarte’s services, they could return for him later in the transfer window.
