A section of Manchester United fans made clear their frustrations towards Marcus Rashford over his recent admission of his desire to seek a "new challenge".

Rashford was once again dropped from the United squad that fell 4-3 to Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Thursday, with head coach Ruben Amorim admitting the decision was purely tactical.

Amorim has repeatedly left the door open to Rashford, whose recent hint at an exit from the club has divided opinion, but a group of supporters in Thursday's game did not hide away from showcasing their disappointment towards the 27-year-old's comments.

"Excuses. Ta ra, Marcus," read a banner unfurled by a group of fans during the match.

The banner was a call-back to a famous message previously delivered to former manager Sir Alex Ferguson when he was fighting for his job back in 1989: "Three years of excuses and it's still crap. Ta Ra Fergie".

Amorim warned Rashford against the public nature of his comments, lamenting the forward for sparking an overwhelmingly predictable media storm.

Despite the head coach's public insistence of his desire to keep Rashford, reports suggest the academy graduate is available for transfer, perhaps for as little as £40m. He is known to have an interest in moving to La Liga, where Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have all been linked with his services.

Rashford does have serious interest from Saudi Arabia but is not believed to be interested in leaving Europe at this stage of his career.
