The Cameroonian picked up a hamstring issue during the opening week of pre-season training at Carrington, ruling him out of action for the summer fixtures. However, Ruben Amorim still chose to include him in the travelling squad, believing his presence would benefit team harmony and bonding.

Amorim made this decision despite uncertainty surrounding Onana’s future at Old Trafford.

United are believed to be open to offloading the shot-stopper, following a disastrous 2024/25 campaign in which he made numerous high-profile mistakes that dearly cost the side.

The Red Devils value Onana at £30m but there have been no concerete offers for him.

During United’s Premier League Summer Series’ matches against West Ham, Bournemouth and most recently, Everton, Amorim rotated between Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Onana was back in light training as he steps up his return to action.

Now, the 29-year-old has delivered an injury update.

Onana comments on his fitness

Onana told Sky Sports [as quoted by The Mirror] on Sunday, “I feel good, I feel great.”

He added, “It’s been a few difficult weeks but yeah, hopefully, I will be back for the start of the season. I’m enjoying the training with my guys and we are looking forward.”

Asked about United’s prospects in 2025/26, Onana answered,”If we have a good start against Arsenal, everything is possible.”

United return to action on Saturday when they face Fiorentina at Old Trafford in their final pre-season fixture.
