Man United failed in deadline day swoop for Atlético Madrid star | OneFootball

A member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Atlético Madrid was the subject of a deadline day transfer approach on the part of Manchester United.

That’s according to market insider Ben Jacobs, who points towards Conor Gallagher as the player in question.

Gallagher’s name emerged as a prominent one in Spain’s capital over the final weeks of the summer transfer window.

As much came amid suggestions that, after something of a hit-and-miss debut campaign in La Liga, Atlético had not closed the door to a potential sale of the former Chelsea man.

A number of Premier League clubs, in turn, were tipped as potential landing spots for Gallagher.

And as alluded to above, on deadline day, one such club touched base with the board at the Metropolitano, regarding a loan move for the Englishman.

As per a report from journalist Ben Jacobs:

‘Manchester United made an enquiry to loan Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher. Approach rejected. Atletico were never prepared to sanction a temporary move.’
