A large section of Manchester United fans were disappointed to learn that the club has decided to drop their interest in Victor Osimhen.

With Rasmus Hojlund becoming the face of the club’s ongoing attacking struggles, the management is keen to sign a quality striker in the summer, and they have been linked with a host of potential candidates, including the Nigerian bomber who has been described as the ‘complete package’ by his former Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti.

The Lagos native has been widely considered as one of the most exciting names on the Red Devils’ radar. The 26-year-old remains on Napoli’s books, but the two parties have no desire to reconcile, so they’re expected to part ways for good next summer when the striker returns from his loan spell at Galatasaray.

However, David Ornstein stunned Man Utd fans earlier this week by revealing that the Reds have decided to abandon Osimhen’s pursuit.

GiveMeSport has now shed more light on the club’s decision, explaining how the player’s hefty wage demands were deemed too high by INEOS.

The source claims that Osimhen and his entourage asked for a weekly salary of around £300,000, which is what club captain Bruno Fernandes currently earns.

This demand convinced the hierarchy to drift away from the negotiations, as the club is currently working on reducing the wage bill by offloading some of their highest earners, like Christian Eriksen, Marcus Rashford and potentially Casemiro.

Therefore, Man Utd have turned to other profiles to bolster their attack. They are currently ‘very close’ to sealing an agreement with Matheus Cunha who would fill in the Number 10 role alongside Amad Diallo, but the identity of the new centre-forward remains shrouded in mystery.

In recent weeks, Liam Delap emerged as a primary candidate for the role due to his young age (22) and affordable price (£30 million), but as GMS reveals, Chelsea might be leading that particular race.
