Pep Guardiola says he is waiting for the approval of Man City’s club doctor to allow Rodri to return to action.

The Ballon D’or winning midfielder has missed almost the entirety of the season after suffering a serious knee injury.

But he is now back training with the team and Guardiola has raised hopes that he could be seen before the season ends.

“We are really pleased that Erling is back and that Rodri is back in the training sessions,” Guardiola said.

“The moment the official doctor says Rodri can start to play minutes – after that he will start to play minutes, but the doctors have to tell me.

“It was a difficult injury. It was an injury seven to 11 months, the doctor said. Every day Rodri is making more sessions but we have to wait so he doesn’t make a step backwards and get injured again so we have to be careful.

“Every training session he feels better and when the doctor says Rodri is stable and can start to play – after that he is going to come back.”

On whether he will be back this season, the City boss added: “I don’t know. The doctor will tell me.”

Top scorer Erling Haaland has been sidelined with an ankle injury of late but Guardiola says the striker is “getting better”, though is not set to be involved on Fridat night when City take on an in form Wolves side, who have won their last six.

“I’m not surprised (by Wolves’ form),” Guardiola said.

“In the last few years I think they have always had really good players and now they’ve had an incredible run.

“It’s quite similar when Newcastle came a month ago and Aston Villa came. It’s another final for us.

“We have four finals and now we go for the first one.”
