Mainz 05 head coach Bo Henriksen is now the fourth Danish head coach to be linked with the Wolfsburg head coaching position. It remains common knowledge that Danish managing director Peter Christiansen wishes to dispense with current head coach Ralph Hasenhüttl after the current disappointing campaign concludes. The speculation as to who will succeed Hasenhüttl becomes increasingly more ridiculous.
Kicker recently reported that Christiansen’s former FC Copenhagen colleague Jacob Neestrup was in line to be installed after the season. Kicker then produced reports that former Midtjylland and Feyenoord head coach Brian Priske was the top candidate for the job earlier this week. These reports were then quickly retracted.
Former Mainz 05 head coach Bo Svensson – jobless since being released by FC Union Berlin last December – has been touted as a potential candidate. Now the local Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung is bringing Henriksen into the mix. Henriksen has also been linked with RB Leipzig’s head coaching vacancy.
Whether or not Henriksen maintains much interest in departing Mainz remains questionable. The colourful coach maintains cult status with the Palatinate’s “carnival club” and recently signed a contract extension with the Rheinhessen.
Disappointing recent results that have seen Mainz drop out of the race for Europe could potentially persuade Henriksen to consider a change-of-scenery, but the Dane’s commitment to the area simply cannot be questioned.
